Anderson, a poet and literary critic, is associate professor of English at Hollins and has been a member of the faculty since 1998. He holds the M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Michigan and the Ph.D. in English from SUNY Binghamton. He specializes in jazz poetry, African American literature, and the work of Aim�© C�©saire. His translations of C�©saire have been published in Grand Street, Folio, and Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics.

Moten is a poet, literary and social critic, and the author of "Arkansas, "Poems" (with Jim Behrle), "In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Tradition," "I ran from it but was still in it," "Hughson's Tavern," and "B Jenkins," which is named after the poet's mother, who passed away in 2000. He is associate professor of English at Duke University.

Martha Bogle, Superintendent of the Shenandoah National Park discusses Shenandoah National Park's celebration of its 75th Anniversary. Ms. Bogle will share stories of, and plans for, this historic and natural treasure. Ms. Bogle's government work experience spans 30 years at twelve National Park Service sites and one National Wildlife Refuge. She has been superintendent of the Shenandoah National Park since 2008.

"American Gypsy" directed by Jasmine Dellal (1999). America is home to one million Gypsies, or Rom, whose rich culture has long been mysterious to outsiders. A flamboyant Romani leader invites us into this world when it comes under threat. In a quest to defend his honor, he leads us through the history of his people to Civil Rights courts, Vegas casinos and beyond. The Olivarez Trio will be performing 5:30-7pm before the film.

Born and reared in Atlanta, Susan Rebecca White graduated from Brown University and received her M.F.A. in creative writing from Hollins University, where she was awarded a teaching fellowship and the James Purdy Prize for fiction. Her debut novel, Bound South, a Southern Independent Booksellers Association bestseller, was called a "wonderful debut" by Publishers Weekly, "engrossing" by "VanityFair.com," and received a glowing review from the "Atlanta Journal-Constitution," which said of the book: Bound South comes dressed in innocence and comedy but underneath, its concerns are far more serious the role of religion in the South; dignity as it exists across class divisions; sexuality and its many perplexing forms; cultural rituals and their fragile but confining terms; what it means to listen to your soul and what can happen when you do more than just listen.
