“Celebrating Community” a teachers’ institute sponsored by the Fayette Area Historical Initiative (FAHI) and the Virginia Foundation for Humanities (VFH) partnership
Martinsville, VA
June 19 - June 23, 2006
The Virginia Foundation for Humanities is pleased to announce the 2006 Summer Teachers’ Institute, “Celebrating Community.” K-12 teachers are inivited to apply. Participants will explore local African American history, celebrations, and culture of the region through the lenses of primary documents, oral history and folklife. Teachers will learn interdisciplinary activities that will help students to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning in History/Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Art.
The institute is a rigorous, five-day, program at Martinsville High School in room G-201, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. each morning and concluding at 3:30 p.m. Open to K-12 teachers of History/Social Studies, English/Language Arts, Art, and Library/Media in Martinsville and Henry County School systems. Each teacher will receive a $200 STIPEND AND 30 RECERTIFICATION POINTS FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOL SYSTEMS. Books and other course materials will be provided.
