Summer Institutes
Research and Education hosts summer institutes for high school and higher education faculty. These are supported by NEH, the Commonwealth, and other donors, and offer faculty advanced training in recent scholarship.
Seminars have included Roots: Teaching the African Dimensions of the History and Culture of the Americas (Through the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade), a seminar on the coming of the Civil War, and Southern writers in the 20th century.
In 2007 VFH is hosting Beyond Jamestown: Virginia Indians Past and Present. This four-day Institute will be held in Charlottesville and is open to teachers at all levels.
For information on upcoming seminars please email the seminar coordinator, Ann Spencer, at aspencer@virginia.edu.
