Legislative Advocacy
Because the VFH provides services to citizens across the Commonwealth, VFH receives funding from both the General Assembly of Virginia and the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency. Without that crucial support, the Virginia Foundation would not be able to provide many of the services and programs we currently offer.
Response To Proposed Cuts

We called out for support, you responded and we're happy to announce that together, we have largely succeeded.
The proposal in the Virginia House of Delegates to eliminate all state funding for VFH has been averted. The Senate proposal was adopted in conference to fund VFH at $1.14 million for 2011 and 2012.
We are grateful to each of you not only for contacting your representatives and writing to the editors of your local papers, but also for recruiting so many friends and constituents who called and wrote their Delegates and Senators on our behalf. We are certain without your efforts we would not have succeeded.
Unfortunately, VFH has suffered numerous cuts to our funding over the last several years. As we move forward in the next year, working to restore our funding and making adjustments to new economic realities, we will continue to ask for your support to preserve the programs that help make Virginia such a rich and vibrant place to live.

Let your representatives know how much VFH programs mean to you. Write your representatives in the Virginia General Assembly and thank them for recognizing that the humanities are not just a luxury, but an essential element contributing to the vitality of Virginia and the members of our Commonwealth.
