- VFH funding and programs increase the attractiveness of the state as a tourism destination by assisting museums and cultural sites to provide excellent visitor experiences.
- Virginia Festival of the Book produces over $275,000 in direct impact on Central Virginia Economy annually.
- Encyclopedia Virginia provides historical context and mapping for tourists.
- The African American Heritage Trail allows travelers to explores sites of importance in Virginia's history.
- The Virginia Indian Heritage Trail Guide encourages visitation to sites which have accurate, culturally sensitive interpretative content on Virginia Indians
- The Virginia Folklife Program promotes the traditional cultures of Virginia and encourages economic growth through Festivals, exhibitions, apprenticeships, recordings, audio and video documentation, grants, and a large number of cultural initiatives throughout the commonwealth, such as the Crooked Road and the Richmond Folk Festival.
- Encyclopedia Virginia is partnering with the Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission to provide digital content during Virginia's Sesquicentennial observation.

VFH supports teachers by:
- Funding teacher institutes through its grant program;
- Conducting its own teacher institute such as the Indian Heritage program "Beyond Jamestown" workshop, and NEH Summer Institutes;
- Helping to revise the Virginia Standards of Learning regarding additions to American Indian content.
- Producing teacher content aids such as the "Beyond Jamestown" and "Big Read in Virginia" teachers' guides.
- Providing workshops, sample lesson plans, and resources organized by grade level, linked to the Virginia Standards of Learning and tested in real classrooms through Encyclopedia Virginia
- Delivering audio content for teachers and students via iTunes and eClips from BackStory radio program
- VFH provides financial and professional development support to Virginia's museums, building community social capital and pride.
- The VFH grant program is one of the only sources of funds in the state for many small and emerging museums and cultural sites; these funds are especially important in the current economic climate.
- VFH supports the Virginia Association of Museums, a 1000-member organization, the largest museum association in the nation, which provides education, resources, and support services to Virginia's museum community, thereby improving their ability to attract visitors and deliver quality visitor experiences.

- Through intensive diversified fund raising efforts, VFH leverages its state funds with a cash match of 2:1, often from out-of-state and federal sources. Our grantees also match state funds with 2:1 matches. VFH also leverages funds with a strong volunteer corp and through numerous partnerships.
